In the first Rajya Sabha election held after 2019, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference retained three seats while the BJP secured one.
Allegations of horse-trading were triggered after the BJP candidate won with four ‘unexpected’ votes from the ‘secular’ bloc, as reported by Babra Wani.
“BJP never keeps any election normal and we have said it time and again,”
said JKNC’s spokesman, Imran Nabi Dar, after losing the seat by four votes. The BJP did not have the numbers to win this seat, having only 28 seats.
Dar stated,
“The BJP did not have the numbers to win this seat; they only have 28 seats, so how could they win? BJP has used all their resources and won this seat.”
