Washington eyes ‘very productive’ Trump-Xi meeting this week

Washington Expects Productive Trump-Xi Meeting

U.S. officials anticipate a "very productive meeting" between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping later this week.

Trump is currently on a five-day Asian tour, which is expected to include a bilateral meeting with Xi in South Korea.

The meeting aims to ease tensions in the trade war between the two nations, after Trump threatened new tariffs on Chinese goods.

"I believe that we have the framework for the two leaders to have a very productive meeting for both sides,"

said U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on NBC's "Meet the Press."

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer also expressed optimism after meeting with Chinese counterparts in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
