Rensselaer man, 20, charged after crashing into school bus

A 20-year-old man from Rensselaer has been charged after crashing into a school bus on Monday morning.

The incident occurred just before 7:30 a.m. on State Route 145 in the Preston Hollow area of Rensselaerville. According to police, the man was speeding and driving recklessly southbound on Route 145, crossed into the northbound lane, and struck a Middleburgh Central School District bus.

The bus was carrying a driver, an attendant, and five children. The crash caused the man's vehicle to flip over and hit a utility pole, resulting in minor injuries for him. However, he was not hospitalized. One child on the bus was also injured, as reported by the police.

Superintendent of Schools Mark Place stated that the students on the bus were checked by the school nurse and were well enough to attend school for the day.

The man, identified as Williams, is facing charges related to the accident.
