Fiery Plane Crash at Shellharbour Airport
Three people died in a light plane crash at Shellharbour Airport on Saturday, October 11.
In all my time as a police officer I've never been to an aviation incident like this.
The Piper Cherokee Lance aircraft took off around 10am, but dipped and crashed to the ground, catching fire, according to Chief Inspector Aaron Wunderlich of the Lake Illawarra police district.
- The plane got about 30 metres into the air before crashing.
- The left wing contacted the tarmac, causing the plane to engulf in flames.
- All three people on board were confirmed deceased.
