In patients with diabetes receiving isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), researchers found no significant differences in safety between multiple arterial grafting (MAG) and single arterial grafting (SAG).
A retrospective analysis of prospective data from the Patient Analysis and Tracking System, a UK cardiac surgery registry, was conducted. The study included patients with diabetes who underwent isolated CABG with SAG or MAG between January 1996 and September 2023 at a high-volume center.
Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to identify independent long-term mortality predictors. Propensity score matching was also used to balance the SAG and MAG cohorts.
No significant safety difference was observed between MAG and SAG in patients with diabetes receiving isolated CABG.
Author's summary: MAG and SAG are comparable in safety for diabetic patients after CABG.
