West Sumatra's Air Quality Worst in Indonesia
On November 2, 2025, West Sumatra's air quality was the worst in Indonesia, with an Air Pollutant Standard Index (ISPU) of 97.
According to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), West Sumatra leads the 10 provinces with the poorest air, followed by Riau Islands and Jambi.
The ISPU is a dimensionless number used to describe ambient air quality conditions at a certain location, based on its impact on human health, aesthetic value, and other living things.
- ISPU calculation is based on the measurement results of seven air pollutant parameters:
- PM10
- PM2.5
- NO2
- SO2
- CO
- O3
- HC
Measurements of these air pollutant parameters are spread across 72 stations in various regions.
