Belfast City Council Passes Motion of No Confidence in Education Minister

Belfast City Council has passed a motion of no confidence in Education Minister Paul Givan despite an earlier walk-out over the issue.

The motion followed a discussion during Monday's monthly meeting on the controversial incident at the ICC in Belfast last week, where a UNISON conference was abandoned after objection to a message on the screen regarding the genocide in Palestine.

Councillor Caoimhín McCann expressed the "anger" felt across the city at Mr Givan's recent trip to Israel.

Councillors from Sinn Féin, SDLP, Green Party, and People Before Profit left the Chamber after being stopped from discussing the issue, but some Sinn Féin councillors returned to vote on a short adjournment.

Author's summary: Belfast City Council passes no-confidence motion in Education Minister.
