Nassau Police Officer Ian Fogarty Honored

Ian Fogarty, a Nassau County police officer, was recognized for rescuing two teens caught in a riptide at Cupsogue Beach County Park on July 16.

Fogarty, who was visiting the beach with his family, saw the two 16-year-olds struggling in the current about 100 yards offshore. Using a boogie board, he swam out to them and helped them return to shore safely.

Fogarty's actions were honored by the Nassau County Legislature, which named him its "Top Cop" for September, recognizing his "selfless valor".
