Ex-Hurricane Melissa has caused severe disruption across Barcelona's public transport network after authorities issued an orange weather alert due to intense rainfall early this morning.
At least 54 flights were cancelled at Barcelona’s El Prat Airport. Outbound flights faced average delays of around 68 minutes, while incoming flights arrived nearly an hour behind schedule, according to Flightradar24.
“The bad weather and strong storms affected operations and forced safety measures to be put in place at the airport,”
said ENAIRE, Spain’s air navigation manager. Airport operator AENA urged travellers to confirm flight details with their airlines before heading to the airport.
Heavy rain also caused major interruptions across the Rodalies commuter train network. The R4 line service has been suspended between Sabadell Sud and Terrassa Est, with replacement buses currently running.
Meanwhile, the R15 line has been cut between Asco and Mora la Nova after rainfall led to a wall collapsing onto the tracks.
