According to reports from Jon Heyman of the New York Post and Spanish broadcaster Mike Rodriguez, free agent outfielder Leody Taveras is joining the Baltimore Orioles on a one-year, $2 million contract.
The 27-year-old switch-hitting center fielder spent time this season with Seattle and Texas, appearing in 58 major league games. He recorded a .205 batting average with three home runs, 17 RBIs, and a .530 OPS, along with nine stolen bases in 12 attempts.
In 2024, Taveras played 151 games for the Texas Rangers, hitting .229 with 12 home runs, 44 RBIs, and a .641 OPS. He successfully stole 23 bases in 29 tries.
After June 7, Taveras did not appear again in the majors. He was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma by Seattle, where he excelled with a .280 batting average, an .804 OPS, 11 home runs, 69 RBIs, and 23 stolen bases in 24 attempts.
The Orioles will need to clear a spot on their 40-man roster to accommodate Taveras.
