A new power-sharing arrangement has been proposed to resolve the week-long deadlock in the World Zionist Congress coalition negotiations. The updated deal was shared with eJewishPhilanthropy by participants involved in the talks.
According to the new terms, the leadership of the World Zionist Organization (WZO) would return to Yaakov Hagoel, followed by a representative from the Yesh Atid party. Rabbi Doron Perez from the Mizrachi movement, originally considered for the WZO chairmanship, would instead assume another senior leadership position.
“The new arrangement would see an even split between the center-left and center-right blocs in the control of the World Zionist Organization and Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael-Jewish National Fund.”
This balance seeks to ensure equal representation across political blocs while adjusting key leadership roles from the collapsed initial agreement. The WZO, responsible for educational and civic initiatives in Israel and abroad, plays a vital role in maintaining global Zionist engagement.
Author’s summary: The World Zionist Congress achieved a near-breakthrough compromise, restoring cooperation between factions and revising top leadership assignments for renewed balance.
