Tywyn Man Ordered to Pay Overdue Child Support or Face Jail

Andrew McMullen, a 42-year-old resident of 27 Ffordd Alban, Tywyn, appeared before Aberystwyth magistrates on 30 October. He was charged with non-payment of child support totaling £4,474.78.

The court described McMullen's failure to pay as a “wilful refusal” and found that “no other method of enforcement is appropriate.” Magistrates noted that he exhibited “culpable neglect” and “chose to bury his head in the sand.”

McMullen was ordered to pay the full amount of £4,474.78 or serve 42 days in jail. However, the sentence was suspended for two years on the condition that he makes monthly payments of £200.
