The Chair of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, Roslyn Morauta, praised Qatar as a valuable and steady partner in the global fight against infectious diseases, highlighting the country’s rising role in health financing worldwide.
In an exclusive interview with The Peninsula at the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha, Morauta described the Global Fund as a “unique partnership” that brings together governments, private foundations, and civil society to deliver measurable health results in developing countries.
“The Global Fund is not like any other multilateral organisation. It is built on a true public-private partnership model where both donors and implementers have equal say. Those who receive funding have as much voice as those who give it.”
Qatar became a donor to the Global Fund in 2016 and has steadily increased its contributions. Although the country currently holds a non-voting seat on the donor side of the Global Fund Board, Morauta expressed optimism that Doha’s enhanced participation will soon earn it a full voting position.
“Qatar joined the Fund as a donor in 2016 and has since steadily increased its contributions.”
Morauta’s remarks underscore Doha’s expanding influence in shaping global health initiatives through active engagement and funding.
