Six Flags America in Bowie, Maryland has shut its doors for good after officially closing its doors one last time.
The site originally opened in 1974 as a wildlife center and underwent several rebranding and ownership changes before Six Flags took over in 1999.
"I think they should keep it," park attendee Brian Fox said. "It definitely gives a lot of kids jobs, things to do during the summer. Next year, what are they gonna do?"
Prince George's County leaders noted that the park generates about $3 million in tax revenue a year, but believe the site has potential for greater revenue.
The closure of Six Flags America leaves a void, with the next closest amusement park located in New Jersey.
Author's summary: Six Flags America closes permanently.
